Ridgeway Primary - The Centre of our Community

Ridgeway Primary SchoolRidgeway School is situated at the heart of the estate and is seen as a key component in the regeneration plans for Cleadon Park.

With the realisation that, as the project progresses, many of the children will be surrounded by building work for much of their young lives, the Partners have made real efforts to ensure that the school and its pupils are involved in as many aspects of the regeneration as possible.

A Children's Centre at the school also ensures that the school is at the centre of the community.

Regular themed workshops take place with the children, organised by partners. These sessions encourage children to think about regeneration as a whole, as this will have an impact on their lives.

Officers from South Tyneside Council and NomadE5 work regularly with children to promote a sense of citizenship amongst young people and their families. Embedding pride, respect and responsibility for the area in which they live.

Officers work in the classroom with children on themes associated with the regeneration project.

For example:

  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • Housing
  • Employment and Training
  • Communication

In addition to this, South Tyneside Council and NomadE5 work closely with Tyne and Wear Fire Rescue Service to promote fire safety and building site safety.
